The video poker machines were first introduced in Las Vegas in the 70s of last century and were right from the start a resounding success. Video Poker is actually a combination of poker and a slot machine. It is somewhat more accessible than regular poker against opponents because there is less strategy involved and it’s easier to sit down and leave. This does not mean that there is no strategy at all with video poker. Provided you play it the right way you can even accomplish a small edge on the casino and thus play winning video poker.

Video Poker is a drawing game. There are many variations, but you will always receive five cards, from which you can choose how many cards to discard. For the cards you choose to discard, you get new cards dealt. As in regular poker, you must try to make the best possible hand combination. The hand sequence is basically the same for all video poker games, but there are many video poker variations in which, for example, the best card is the Joker.
